5 Ways to Get Into a New Routine

Okay, so now that it’s actually the new year, the holidays are over, and we are back into the swing of “real life”, you may have noticed that it has been hard getting back into your normal routine — or just as difficult creating a new one. Here are five ways to help you make the most of your days and your new (or old) ways:

1. Go to bed at the same time every night. Getting an adequate amount of sleep is one thing, but training your body to operate on a healthy sleep cycle will help ensure that it runs like clockwork.

2. Plan your day the night before. Wake up already knowing what your day looks like. Maybe you make your to-do list, set out your AM workout gear, and pack your lunch the night beforehand. Remember: a good morning routine always begins with a good evening one.

3. Give yourself a break (literally). Schedule time (set your phone alarm!) to take multiple mindfulness breaks throughout the day. They could be 30 seconds or five minutes, but spend just a few connecting to your breath and taking a time-out to recalibrate.

4. Find an accountability partner or a coach. As much as we like to think we have stellar willpower and discipline at all times, there are points when we just need some help. Don’t be afraid to ask a friend or hire a professional to help you crush your goals.

5. Enjoy your day and enjoy your life! Get into the habit of finding the good in every day, of practicing gratitude for the little wins that you have each day, and not being too hard on yourself. None of us are perfect, so when you fall off the wagon, get right back on and keep smiling. You got this!
